Victoria kicks career goals with Carlton

Studying Exercise and Sport Science at RMIT University saw Victoria Moodie join the big league - working with Carlton Football Club.

Her industry placement in the AFL club's strength and conditioning department at Visy Park ran for almost a year.

Ms Moodie, who has now completed a Bachelor of Applied Sciences (Exercise and Sport Science), experienced the role of a sport scientist, working closely with players and staff, helping with training sessions and analysing their performances during games.

"When I was working with the Carlton Football Club, I was constantly using the content I learnt from my RMIT strength and conditioning course and applying it in the gym," she said.

"Being on placement teaches you things that you can't learn in the classroom, preparing you for the future."

Ian Coutts, Carlton's General Manager Communications, said the work integrated learning placement had been very valuable.

"We are very fortunate to work closely with RMIT in being able to provide work placement opportunities for students.

"As Victoria says, the placement provides a practical benefit for students and, importantly, the Carlton Football Club benefits from the work students undertake while they are with us."

Professor Stephen Bird, Discipline Head of Exercise Sciences at RMIT, said: "Industry placements are an integral part of the learning experience at RMIT.

"It allows students to apply what they've learnt at university in the workforce, as well as giving them the opportunity to make their own industry contacts and improve their employability when they graduate.

"Industry partners such as the Carlton Football Club, Wheelchair Sports Victoria and Exercise Research Australia provide an invaluable experience for our students.

"But it's a symbiotic relationship where we work together to ensure the next generation of skilled professionals are equipped with the most relevant and up-to-date knowledge."
