Vice-chancellor's message for RMIT TAFE students about 2013 TAFE fees

Dear RMIT TAFE students

RMIT University is proud to offer high quality TAFE education to you and more than 20,000 other TAFE students.

As a global university of technology and design, RMIT gives you the skills to succeed in your chosen trade or profession.

Unfortunately, RMIT has been affected by the reduction in funding from the Victorian State Government for government-subsidised TAFE places.

As I wrote to you in May, this resulted in higher tuition fees for government-subsidised places for students starting a new TAFE program from 1 July.

2013 TAFE tuition fees

I am writing to you again because from 1 January 2013 Victorian State Government funding for all government-subsidised TAFE places will be significantly reduced.

To meet this shortfall in funding, the University has had to increase tuition fees for all government-subsidised TAFE places for 2013. This is so that the University can continue to offer a broad range of quality programs and services to TAFE students.

Fees for domestic full-fee and international TAFE students will not be affected.

What does this mean for you?

This means that from 1 January 2013 you will pay the new 2013 TAFE tuition fees that were released this week.

On the 2013 TAFE tuition fees web page you can find out the full-time tuition fees for your program, or you can calculate your fees based on the fee per contact hour if you are studying less than a full-time load in 2013.

Fee assistance

If you are eligible, you can apply for fee assistance in the form of a concession on tuition fees, or you can apply to defer your tuition fees via the VET FEE-HELP loan scheme. The concession tuition fee amount for each program is also available on the 2013 TAFE fees web page.

RMIT, like all other Victorian TAFE institutions, is under an increasing amount of pressure to fund our programs and facilities under the State Government’s current funding model. However, RMIT remains fully committed to TAFE and the quality of our education programs.

We are also committed to offering all RMIT students equal access to learning support services, sports activities, careers advice, arts and culture, health and welfare services, and student clubs.
